Her story

Strong, kind and always there for others.

Geeske loved the brighter side of life and was always ready to help. She was a strong woman, especially during the final stage of her life. She did not complain. She remained kind to those around her and, with her own sense of humour, kept finding light even when life was difficult.

Children held a special place in her heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant a great deal to her. The humour with which Geeske faced life lives on in her children and grandchildren.

Learning and work

A life of getting things done

After primary school, Geeske attended the domestic science school in Allardsoog. She worked as a farm maid and domestic helper, and later at the Douma and Wolf sewing workshop. Different worlds, connected by the same instinct: roll up her sleeves and be there for others.

What she loved

Craft, music and being together

Geeske enjoyed knitting and crochet, singing, parties and holidays. In her younger years she played in a mandolin club and took part in korfball. Her joy lay in making things, being active and, most of all, spending time with the people she loved.

What remains

A laugh passed on

Geeske had a very distinctive sense of humour. Even when life was difficult, she held on to it. That outlook has not disappeared: her children and grandchildren carry the same humour with them. In this way, something essential of Geeske remains recognisable from one generation to the next.
